Portfolio Reviews
For artists, the Critique process is an essential tool for critical thinking, providing feedback on concepts and underlying themes that they may not have seen themselves, as well as opening up new ideas that help artists realize their work to the best of their abilities.
Critical Thinking

Heidi Kayser of ATNE at Portfolio Reviews hosted by the Photographic Resource Center
As an academic institution, your students may have Critiques, Reviews or presentations of work as part of their curriculum. These provide students advice and constructive criticism from their professors, and sometimes from visiting professors or artists. ATNE realizes just how important this critical feedback can be to becoming successful in the art world.
Knowledge
Our Portfolio Reviews are lead by renowned artists, critical thinkers, professors, curators, gallery directors and arts professionals who provide vital information on possible career directions, exhibition and gallery representation opportunities. They also advise on best practices for submitting portfolios, applying to grants and residencies, and best techniques and practices for presentation in a museum or gallery setting.
This coming October, 2009, ATNE will host a day-long Portfolio Review where artists will be given an in-depth review and consultation with five respected arts professionals. Artists will gain insight into the following areas:
1. The quality of work and creative process
2. The quality of presentation of work
3. The proficiency of the artist to articulate their vision in a professional setting
4. The ability of the artist to market themselves to the art world and to professional development opportunities
In addition, reviewers will provide feedback on Artist Statements, curriculum vitae, and advise on potential career tracks. During the one-on-one consultations, reviewers can refer or guide artists to other artists, galleries, arts organizations or employers that may align conceptually.
